The Lexus IS has been named best executive car at the Scottish Car of the Year awards – beating off some strong European competition.

Scotland votes yes for Lexus IS

Praised for offering “something fresh and different” in a market which is usually dominated by conservatively styled diesels, the IS was presented with the honour by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers at their annual presentation dinner in St. Andrews on Friday.

President of the ASMW, Alasdair Suttie, said, ““In a marketplace dominated by German offerings, the Lexus IS delivers a unique take on the compact luxury theme. It feels fresh and different to the more obvious choices and the standard kit list is lengthier too”.

Adding, “At its most desirable in hybrid form, this is a car that’s subtle and respectable. The hybrid drivetrain works well and offers a refined alternative to the usual diesel choices, while the low CO2 is good news for company car drivers.”

Launched back in 2013, the latest IS models show the typically cutting edge styling that sets Lexus vehicles apart from the chasing pack.

It was the first generation of the compact saloon to use Lexus’s hybrid technology – offering drivers better efficiency, impressive reliability and lower tax bills.

All of these qualities are complimented by the classic Lexus qualities of luxury, attention to detail and the application of user-friendly advanced technologies.

Powered by a hybrid powertrain that pairs a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a battery-charged electric motor, the IS 300h can deliver a total power output of 217bhp, with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.

It’s a dynamic drive too, with rear-wheel drive and a smooth acceleration courtesy of its high-tech power units and automatic Electronic-Continuously Variable Transmission.

With prices starting at £30,995, the IS 300h is competitively priced amongst the executive saloon market and also makes a compelling offer for company drivers.

The IS 250 saloon comes equipped with a powerful 2.5-litre V6 petrol engine delivering 204bhp, driving the rear wheels through a 6-speed automatic gear box.

Prices for the Lexus IS 250 start at £26,495.
