WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DRIVING A HYBRID AND A STANDARD LEXUS VEHICLE?
Lexus Hybrid technologies are engineered with the environment and efficiency in mind. Encouraging a smaller consumption of fuel and lessened CO2 emissions, hybrid technologies enable your vehicle to switch between electric power and petrol engine to ensure the best, cleanest drive.
DO I REQUIRE PLUGS OR SOCKETS TO CHARGE THE HYBRID BATTERY?
No. The hybrid Lexus vehicle recharges the car battery using the brake regeneration energy or while you’re driving at higher speeds. So if you need to leave your Lexus for a long period of time, for any reason, the petrol will run the car and the car will charge the battery, seamlessly.
WHAT IS BRAKE REGENERATION ENERGY?
Advanced brake regeneration technology ensures that every time you brake or decelerate, the energy to do so is converted into electricity. Cleverly transforming the kinetic energy into electric energy, your Lexus stores power in its high-voltage battery, saving it for when you next drive.
HOW FAR CAN I TRAVEL USING HYBRID BATTERY POWER ALONE?
When driving at low speeds, you can operate on battery power alone. Fear not, your Lexus hybrid battery will never drop below a certain level. The smart technologies decide when you should be using battery power, a decision that fully depends on road conditions, the level of battery charge and vehicle load.
WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE LEXUS HYBRID DRIVE OVER OTHER COMPETITOR HYBRID SYSTEMS?
In 2005, Lexus was the first marque to introduce luxury hybrid vehicles to the market, in the form of the RX 400h. With consistent refinement and development, this hybrid technology has rapidly progressed since the launch date. HOW DOES LEXUS HYBRID DRIVE ADAPT TO CHANGING DRIVING CONDITIONS?
Should you choose to accelerate with speed and power in your Lexus hybrid vehicle, the Power Control Unit (PCU) chooses whether to power your drive with electric power or petrol, so that you can accelerate with ease and at an impressive speed. In addition to this, PCU manages a number of things, including: storage, the allocation of electric energy and efficient generation. While you cruise, your Lexus is often working hard to convert surplus engine power into electricity for your battery. If you are descending or coasting down a hill, your Lexus has the ability to switch off it’s engine, while city driving in traffic, at low speeds, is simple thanks to the often electric motor powered drive.
WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM SPEED THAT YOUR HYBRID CAN HIT BEFORE THE PETROL ENGINE STARTS?
The maximum speed is very dependant on the hybrid system temperature, level of battery charge, driving conditions and vehicle load. If your Lexus battery is well charged, and you are driving at a steady and gentle acceleration, you can hit 30mph using electric power alone.
CAN I SWITCH BETWEEN POWER SOURCES MYSELF?
You will never have to select a power source; your Lexus does this for you. The Power Control Unit chooses the most effective power source, considering your driving conditions at all times. You can, however, choose to drive with zero emissions electric vehicle mode for a short period of time, where possible. If efficiency is your primary concern, then it is important to note that Lexus petrol engines run very efficiently when running at a consistent speed, e.g. on the motorway. As a contrast, electric motors are perfect for accelerating.
IS LEXUS HYBRID DRIVE RELIABLE?
Lexus Hybrid Drive components are engineered to be highly durable, this means that you can rely on your Lexus hybrid engine. The generators and electric motors are maintenance free, while the petrol engine provides an optimum driving experience, ensuring that it has a long engine life. Even the brakes are more reliable than your usual non-hybrid motor, due to the Brake Regeneration Energy.
HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT MY LEXUS HYBRID BATTERY TO LAST?
Designed to last your vehicle it’s lifetime, hybrid batteries are engineered to impress. You are warranted for five years - so there is no need to worry should anything happen in the first five years of ownership.
COMPARED TO A NON-HYBRID LEXUS, HOW MUCH WILL MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS COST ME?
With no clutch and starter motor, plus the addition of Brake Regeneration Brakes, it’s no surprise that the cost of running and servicing a Lexus Hybrid is reduced in comparison to petrol and diesel alternative vehicles. A Hybrid Health Check is included as part of your service.
